Ahmad Wali Ahmad-Yar is a Ph.D. researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in the faculty of Social Sciences & Solvay Business School. His primary research interest revolves around the gaps in international migration theories and data, EU migration and integration policies, family reunification of refugees and diaspora mobilisation. Ahmad Wali is concurrently enrolled as a Ph.D. student at the Research Centre in Political Science (CICP) at the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal.

With a master's degree in political science from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Ahmad's academic achievements are distinguished. Prior to his current position, he gained valuable experience as a junior researcher at the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS)​ in Brussels, Belgium, where he dedicated nearly three years to researching international migration, EU migration policies, and the integration of immigrants in Europe. His focus later expanded to encompass topics such as the Role of the EU in Global Governance, differentiated integration in the European Union, and the EU's actorness and effectiveness.

Born in Afghanistan, Ahmad Wali completed his elementary and secondary education in his home country. In 2010, he was awarded a prestigious scholarship that allowed him to pursue a bachelor's degree in international relations at al-Farabi Kazakh National University in the Republic of Kazakhstan. During his time there, he immersed himself in the Russian and Kazakh languages and actively engaged with the Afghan diaspora in Central Asia through his role as a Public Relations Officer and head of the youth council at the Ariana Social Centre, an NGO focused on the social development of Afghan communities in the region. Additionally, Ahmad worked as a professional translator and interpreter for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).


Ahmad Wali's passion for international affairs and diplomacy led him to become one of the founding members of the Silk Way International Model United Nations in 2011, a renowned conference for youth and young professionals held annually in Almaty, Kazakhstan. His dedication and leadership abilities were recognised, and he served as the secretary-general of Silk Way MUN from 2014 to 2015. Throughout his career, Ahmad has actively participated in numerous Model United Nations conferences and played an instrumental role in organising these events. Furthermore, he has contributed to academic and non-academic journals and newspapers by publishing numerous articles.

Ahmad Wali's commitment to making a positive impact continued when he moved to Belgium in August 2015 to pursue a master's degree in Political Science at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. While undertaking his studies, he also dedicated his time as a volunteer with the Red Cross. Through his role as a translator, interpreter, and consultant, he assisted in tracing lost members of migrant families and provided crucial information on family reunification. His linguistic skills and empathetic nature proved invaluable in supporting vulnerable individuals navigating complex circumstances.

Ahmad Wali Ahmad-Yar's multifaceted background and extensive experience in research, academia, and humanitarian work have shaped him into a compassionate and knowledgeable professional. His contributions to the field of international migration and his commitment to social activism continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and communities affected by migration. Besides his professional work, he has a great passion for the history of Central Asia, having spent many years reading on the topic and learning different Central Asian languages.

احمد ولی احمدیار کاندیدای دکترا در دانشگاه آزاد بروکسل در رشته دموگرافی و جامعه شناسی و همزمان، کاندیدای دکترا در بخش علوم سیاسی و روابط بین‌الملل در دانشگاه مینهوی کشور پرتگال است. احمد ولی مکتب را در کابل در لیسه عالی حکیم ناصر خسرو بلخی به پایان رسانید و بعد از سپری امتحان کانکور موفق به راهیابی به دیپارتمنت کمپیوتر ساینس دانشکده ساینس پوهنتون تعلیم و تربیه استاد ربانی شد. احمد ولی در سال ۲۰۱۰ میلادی از طریق رقابت آزاد و کسب نمره عالی در امتحان، موفق به دریافت بورسیه تحصیلی جمهوری قزاقستان شده و در سال ۲۰۱۱ بعد از بدست آوردن دیپلم زبان های قزاقی و روسی شامل دانشکده روابط بین الملل شد. او لیسانس دیپلوماسی و روابط بین الملل را از دانشگاه ملی الفارابی شهر آلماتی جمهوری قزاقستان در سال ۲۰۱۵ بدست آورد. در جریان ۵ سال تحصیل در جمهوری قزاقستان، احمد ولی هم‌چنان به فعالیت های فرهنگی و اجتماعی متفاوت از جمله اشتراک در کنفرانس های بین المللی، برگزاری برنامه های شبیه سازی سازمان ملل و ناتو پرداخت. در کنار این، او نمایندگی از افغانستان در برنامه های فرهنگی و نمایندگی از محصلین افغان در قزاقستان را به عهده داشت. بین سالهای ۲۰۱۲ و ۲۰۱۵، در کنار درس های دانشگاه، احمد ولی به حیث ترجمان با دفتر بخش آسیای مرکزی کمیساریای عالی سازمان ملل متحد برای مهاجرین (UNHCR) و عضو هیئت رسمی جمهوری قزاقستان برای انتخاب محصلین افغان در بورسیه های دولتی ایفای وظیفه نمود. احمد ولی از سال ۲۰۱۵ بدین‌سو در کشور شاهی بلژیک زندگی میکند. بر اساس علاقه و توانمندی، احمد ولی در سال ۲۰۱۷ ماستری خود را در رشته علوم سیاسی از دانشگاه آزاد بروکسل (بخش فرانسوی زبان) بدست آورد و مدت ۳ سال منحیث پژوهشگر در مرکز مطالعات پالیسی اتحادیه اروپا ایفای وظیفه کرد. از شروع سال ۲۰۲۰، احمد ولی در کنار دکترا به حیث پژوهشگر در دانشگاه آزاد بروکسل (بخش هالندی زبان) کار میکند. با همکاری بخش اروپایی اداره‌ی کمیساریای عالی سازمان ملل متحد برای مهاجرین، احمد ولی از جمله بنیانگذاران کمیته مهاجرین افغان در بلژیک و یکی از اعضای کلیدی شبکه دیاسپورای افغان در اروپا میباشد.
